A lifetime of memories: Abby Bishop reflects on her stellar career

An unexpected return to WNBL action has given fans one last chance to farewell the Olympic medallist and former league MVP.

As Abby Bishop tells it, the month of January was a “huge rollercoaster”.

She had just announced her retirement after 19 years of professional basketball. “You’ve been my teacher, my challenge, and my greatest reward,” she wrote in an emotional social media post.

Then she got an unexpected phone call…

“When [the Capitals] reached out, it was absolutely a shock,” she tells The Pick and Roll.

“It took me a couple of days to sway my mind because initially I was like: ‘Absolutely not, I’ve just retired!’. I hadn't played for so long; it definitely caught me off guard.”
