Come 29 September 2017, the NBA will release a new element to their jersey, in collaboration with sports giant Nike.
Known as NikeConnect, the jersey becomes a real-time connection for fans to their favourite teams and players. It unlocks member access to incredible product, fan content and experiences, offering next-level access to athletes, exclusive offers, and the game itself.
With a tap of the smartphone to the tag at the bottom of the NikeConnect jersey, various features are unlocked, including:
- Customized NBA highlights package for your player and team within 30 mins after every game
- Exclusive gear and early access to the hottest licensed products
- A section called Upcoming Rewards, which features exclusive licensed products, game tickets, athlete access, NBA 2K18 boosts, Spotify playlists from athletes and more

Ben Simmons, who makes his first appearance on the NBA hardwood this 2017/18 season (check out our wish list for Ben), is a prime contender for Rookie of the Year, with veteran Philly centre Amir Johnson calling him “the future of [the NBA]”.
“The stuff I’ve seen him do just training, it almost seems like it’s not fair, man,” said Johnson (source). “You get a guard to switch on him, you get a big to switch on him, and he’s just an unbelievable athlete, unbelievable scorer, and an unbelievable passer. He can do it all.”
Simmons will be featured along with other stars like Kevin Durant, Paul George and more, and mentioned that he will be using Nike’s new technology to regularly connect with fans.
“With NikeConnect, you be able to receive messages from me when you put your phone against the tag,” Simmons promised.
One message Simmons wants to share, would be about work, and self-belief, especially for other young Aussies who aspire to the NBA.
“Just work! No matter what anybody says or doubts you. A lot of people doubted me when I was back in Australia, and I’m here now! So you can’t listen to everybody.”
The Nike NBA Connected Jersey requires the fan to download and open the NikeConnect app, which is available on both Android and iOS, and requires NFC to be enabled on the phones.
NBA player jerseys that will be making their way down to Australia include:
- Kevin Durant
- Ben Simmons
- Karl Anthony Towns
- Blake Griffin
- Paul George
- DeMar DeRozan
- Kemba Walker
