Newley narrowly misses returning to Eurocup finals
In the Eurocup semi-finals Brad Newley had an excellent showing as he did everything he could in order to get Herbalife Gran Canaria to the finals, however it wasn’t meant to be as the Spaniards came away on the losing side to Galatasaray Odeabank Istanbul. In the Euroleague, Ryan Broekhoff showed off his shooting touch in Lokomotiv Kuban’s loss to Darussafaka Dogus Istanbul.
With round 14 of the Euroleague Top 16 coming to a start, Lokomotiv Kuban took on Darussafaka Dogus Istanbul. Kicking off the first half of action Lokomotiv Kuban looked to be the aggressor as they continued scoring at will, allowing them to go into halftime up, with the score 47-38.
In the second half of play, Darussafaka started to fight back, Lokomotiv had no answer to stopping the Turkish side as they outscored them 49-39 through the final two quarters of action. Which in turn helped them come out with the win over Lokomotiv 87-86.
Ryan Broekhoff showed off his shooting touch, hitting two shots from behind the arc, to go with 8 points (2/3 FG) and 2 rebounds in 23 minutes of playing time.

Zalgiris Kaunas looked to pull off the upsetting win over Euroleague powerhouse FC Barcelona. To start the game, the Lithuanian side looked to do just that as they came out with an excellent showing in the first half of play, allowing them to go into the main break up 34-28.
In the second half, Zalgiris continued to make it a competitive game, however Barcelona’s offense started to come to life as they took a 55-52 lead. From there the Spanish side didn’t look back, as they came away with the win 66-59. Brock Motum saw 15 minutes of action, finishing the game with 4 points on 2/4 shooting from the field, to go with 1 rebound.

Herbalife Gran Canaria looked to overcome the 14-point deficit they put themselves into with their semifinal game one loss to Galatasaray Odeabank Istanbul. To start the first quarter of action, it was a back and forth high scoring affair, with the Turkish side taking the two-point lead (29-27.) Yet in the second period, Gran Canaria came back taking the slight edge thanks to a Brad Newley three that helped them go into halftime up 48-44.
In the second half of play the momentum started to sway towards Gran Canaria as they looked like the team that wanted it more. However they couldn’t widen the margin to more than 14-points. With the aggregate score tied at the end of regulation, an extra period was required. Unfortunately for Gran Canaria, they would win 94-81 in overtime - by 13 points. Yet because it was a total-point series in which Galatasaray led by 14-points from their first game, which allowed them to advance to the finals.
Brad Newley hounded Galatasaray’s perimeter players all game as he finished the night making one three-pointer on his way to scoring 6 points, grabbing 6 rebounds and dishing out 1 assist in 30 minutes of action. It ends Gran Canaria's chances of returning to the finals after finishing runners-up in 2015.
