Newley and Cadee sign to play in Greece
A pair of Aussies have wasted no time getting back on the court after their respective NBL seasons finished, with Sydney Kings pair Brad Newley and Jason Cadee signing deals in Europe.
Newley and Cadee are both setting off to Greece to play for AEK Athens and Kymis B.C., respectively.
“We are firm believers that our players should have the chance to continue their professional development and retain their sharpness during the NBL off-season,” Kings Managing Director, Jeff Van Groningen said.
“It’s certainly no surprise to us that Brad and Jason have currency in the international market. Both players have ongoing commitments to the Sydney Kings and we look forward to them coming back to us after these short term stints are complete.”
Newley is a celebrated European basketballer, beginning his journey abroad in 2007, where he played for Greek club, Panionios. After bouncing around Turkey and Lithuania, Newley found a home in Spain, playing for Gran Canaria.
The 31-year-old is a former All-Star in both the Lithuanian and Greek leagues, while he is coming off an All-NBL Second Team campaign. Newley averaged 17.6 points, 5.0 rebounds and 4.1 assists for Sydney this season.
For Cadee, this will be the first time he has played professional ball in Europe. An NBL mainstay, Cadee has played for the Gold Coast, Adelaide and Sydney, along with a stint in the New Zealand league. This past season with the Kings, Cadee averaged 13.0 points and 3.2 assists.
