NBL: Sydney Kings sign Kevin Lisch, Andrew Gaze to coach

The Sydney Kings have wasted no time announcing two huge coups, both of which the team hopes will help turn around the struggling franchise.

In just the second day of free agency, the Kings have already made a statement to the rest of the league. In a press conference this morning, they officially unveiled Australian basketball legend, Andrew Gaze as coach for at least the next 3 seasons.

Along with the announcement of Gaze taking over the coaching reigns, current NBL MVP Kevin Lisch was unveiled as the teams first free agent signing, also signing on for 3 years.

The move signals a time of change for the Kings who could only manage 6 wins last season and were anchored to the bottom of the ladder.

The two stars of Australian basketball will be at the forefront of everything the Kings do going forward. Obviously, a new coach and 1 player can't turn around the Kings single-handedly, but it is a terrific start.

Lisch starred for the Illawarra Hawks last season, averaging 19.4 points (49.7% FG), 3.5 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.8 steals per game. His intensity and ability to impact on both ends of the floor will improve the Kings from day one.

It is clear that Gaze has high hopes for his new club, and wants to bring some pride back into the Sydney Kings organisation.

"Certainly success on the floor is critical but we also want the Kings to do the city proud... With the new management we are in the best position to achieve the ultimate goal; to win a championship."

The appointment of Gaze is sure to add some extra heat to the Melbourne v Sydney rivalry. Gaze's number is retired in Melbourne and him being the undisputed greatest player in club history only adds to the intrigue and excitement for the 2016/17 season.

The Kings have made massive moves on day 2 of free agency. Look for the rest of the league to announce some big signings in the near future as the free agency period heats up!
