Motum's Zalgiris upset reigning EuroLeague Champion
Brock Motum and Zalgiris Kaunas pulled out a massive upset win in EuroLeague, while Ryan Broekhoff's Lokomotiv have qualified to advance to the Top 8 of EuroCup.
Zalgiris Kaunas pulled off an upset win over EuroLeague powerhouse CSKA Moscow, coming away out on top in their matchup 79-74. And right out of the gates, Zalgiris made sure to show the ex-champs that they were ready to compete, despite the fact that they trailed going into the break (45-38). The Lithuanian side didn’t let that get the best of them, and they came out more determined to win in the second half outscoring CSKA 41-29 through the final two quarters of play.
Brock Motum pitched in 9 points (4/7 FG), 4 rebounds and 1 steal in 16 minutes of action. He also showed off his shooting touch for a big-man hitting one shot from behind the arc.

Lietkabelis Panevezys have now made it two losses in a row after they came up on the short end of FC Bayern Munich’s 78-72 point win. Despite the loss, Lietkabelis made a game of it this time out, looking like the better team in the first half due to their aggressive play, going into halftime leading 40-39. However Bayern Munich came out of the break with something to prove. The German side outscored Lietkabelis 24-16 in the third quarter, and that was just too much of a gap for them to overcome.
Ben Madgen poured in 11 points (3/7 FG) while making two shots from deep and earning his way to the free-throw line four times. He also had a season high 6 turnovers, which could have come back to hurt the team in the end. But his defense ultimately offset that, as the team held Bayern to 4/15 shooting from three-point territory.

Lokomotiv Kuban Krasnodar took on Montakit Fuenlabrada in a tight game that ultimately came down to the final minutes of play to decide the winner. Lokomotiv led 88-85 with 0.54 seconds left in the game, but Montakit Fuenlabrada still had a chance. However they missed the shot allowing Lokomotiv to come away victors 91-87.
Ryan Broekhoff went scoreless on the night (0/1 FG), but he didn’t let that get the best of him and instead he found other ways to contribute. Defensively he was a pest like always, hounding the opposition everywhere they went. Broekhoff finished the night with 3 rebounds and 2 assists in only 11 minutes of action. With the win Lokomotiv are now 4-0 in the Top 16, while sitting atop the Group E standings.
