The Oregon Ducks have acquired the services of one of the most improved players in women’s basketball, with 5’9 guard Morgan Yaeger committing to the program.

After initially receiving offers from Vanderbilt, Grand Canyon University and Idaho State, Yaeger received an offer from Oregon last week via Skype and immediately labelled the program as her preference.

They have a great coach staff which suits me in terms of basketball style and [my] general personality. It is on the West Coast so it’s closer to home, the weather is good, and it is in a good conference.

Yaeger, out of Forestville, South Australia, came off the bench for the Australian U17 Women’s squad at the 2014 FIBA U17 World Championship, averaging 2.8 ppg and 1 rpg in limited minutes.

The Ducks are currently in a rebuilding phase, something that Yaeger considered when making her decision.

They are in a building stage so hopefully that will give me an opportunity to play. It was really easy, we spoke to lots of different people about Oregon and not one bad thing about them came up, so it was an easy decision for me.

As an athletic two-way guard, Yaeger continued to show improvement heading into this year’s U18’s Australian Junior Championships – leading her SA Metro squad to an impressive 3rd place finish, averaging 13 ppg, 4 rpg and 2.6 apg over the week. Yaeger’s goal at Oregon is to continue to compete, with the hopes of winning a championship during her time there.

Coach [Kelly] Graves’ goal is to win a championship and he says he wants to be seriously competing for one while I’m at Oregon. My goal is just to support the team in any way they need me too and bring an international spark to the team.
