Mitch Creek, Jock Landale among top Summer League efficiency leaders

Synergy Sports released a list of NBA Summer League players earlier today, that led the tournament in offensive efficiency. Among the top names listed, were Mitchell Creek and Jock Landale.

Landale was in third place on the high volume list, which was defined by using more than 12 possessions per game. The big man scored at an extremely efficient clip of 1.22 points per possession (PPP), and looked very confident from both the three-point line and his staple plays closer to the rim.

Creek meanwhile, was third on the qualified players list at 1.32 PPP with lesser possessions, at 8.4 per game. His Minnesota Timberwolves lost in the Summer League finals against the Memphis Grizzlies yesterday.

Obviously, this is Summer League; the higher ratings needs to be taken into context with the level of play. At the NBA level, James Harden used 16.4 possessions per game during the 2018/19 regular season with 63 games played, and had 1.11 PPP. Kevin Durant played 78 games with 3.7 possessions per game, and was 1.06 PPP (source).

Mitch Creek's performance this Summer League has been impressive. Not only did he put on full display, his hustle and effort --all the little things that do not show up on a typical box score-- Creek also showed off a consistent outside shot, which greatly improves his prospects and fit in the NBA. The forward averaged 11.1 points, 4.3 rebounds, and shot 64% from the field. Right now, there is still no news on a potential deal with an NBA team for Creek.

It sounds like Jock Landale will not be in the NBA this season. Landale, who was waiting on a full contract over a two-way deal, will suit up for Zalgiris Kaunas. According to Lithuanian journalist Donatas Urbonas, Landale's NBA opt-out clause had a deadline of 15 July, which has passed without commitments.
