We are now halfway through the 2013-14 NBA season and we have been treated to some absolute great kicks thus far. It’s tough to narrow it down to only 5 pairs, but I’ve compiled my list of the top 5 kicks at the halfway point of the 2013-14 NBA season.
Andre Drummond – Air Jordan 10 “Old Royal”
The kicks a person is wearing tell us a lot about their personality. There is no exception here with Detroit Pistons big man, Andre Drummond.
Drummond wore these classic “Old Royal” Air Jordan 10s but with a twist. He wore these on the one year anniversary of the Newtown, Connecticut shooting. To honour the victims of the shooting he wrote all 26 victims names on his shoes.
Having played his college hoops at the University of Connecticut, Drummond has a strong connection to the town of Newtown and the Sandy Hook victims. This was the perfect way to honour the town, he also donated his game-worn jersey to the school. Well played, Andre.
Nick Young – Nike Kobe 9 Elite “Masterpiece”
Nick Young had the privilege of debuting the highly anticipated Nike Kobe 9 Elite against the Heat earlier this week. With Bryant sidelined with a knee injury, it was Young who was the first player to wear these new kicks on the court.
The Kobe 9 has a revolutionary design which incorporates Nike’s own material the Nike Flyknit, which is light and responds to the movement of your foot. The high-cut of the Kobe 9 is built to support to the Achilles, which was obviously the injury Kobe had to overcome this past off-season.
‘Swaggy P’ loves to wear all sorts of Nike’s and Jordan’s, but being the first to wear the newest Kobe model on court is a big deal. These kicks are set to be released in early February and they will be huge sellers.
P.J. Tucker – Nike Air Foamposite Pro “Asteroid”
As a huge fan of Foamposite’s, I just couldn’t go past these very loud kicks. P.J. Tucker wears a lot of Foams and loves to debut new kicks, just as he did with these Nike Air Foamposite Pro “Asteroid”.
When you wear any Foams on the court, you are going to be noticed, but this Asteroid colourway takes it to a whole new level.
As you can see in the photos, these kicks feature many colours; starting with yellow at the toe and finishing with black at the heel.
Ray Allen – Air Jordan 11 “Two Rings” Championship PE
Ray Allen wore these Jordan’s on the night he received his second ring. This colourway is a one-off, player exclusive for Allen.
This colourway is one of the best I’ve seen on a Jordan 11. The 11 has a slick design that goes perfectly with gold leather upper and red accents and sole. The tongue has the ‘Ray’ logo on it that features him shooting a jump shot in silhouette that forms part of the ‘R’.
I doubt we will ever have the chance to buy a pair of these kicks, but if we do I’m sure they would fly out the door and be a huge seller for Jordan Brand.
Paul Pierce – Nike Air Legacy 3 “BHM” PE
Paul Pierce has been wearing Nike Air Legacy 3’s for many seasons now. And he has also been paying homage to ‘Black History Month’ for a couple of seasons too. This season is no exception.
Going up against the Knicks at Madison Square Garden on MLK Day, ‘The Truth’ laced up a very unique ‘BHM’ colourway of the Nike Air Legacy 3. Many players wore special ‘BHM’ colourways on this day, but I just couldn’t go past Pierce and his Air Legacy’s.
The black and purple mixture was a treat this year. The tongue features Paul Pierce’s PE logo.
It’s been a great season of kicks thus far, let’s hope the second half of the season can continue to bring the heat.
