Kerr: Andrew Bogut to start for Warriors

Andrew Bogut’s role with the Golden State Warriors just went from reserve veteran big man, to official starting centre.

Following DeMarcus Cousins’ injury, it seemed like a no-brainer that Bogut — who has had plenty of experience playing with the Warriors’ starters during their first championship run– would join the starting lineup over Kevon Looney, and head coach Steve Kerr confirmed the decision.

“Bogut will start,” Kerr said. “That way we keep Loon in his same role, backing up the center position. I think that makes the most sense.

“Looney’s been tremendous, and he’s had a fantastic season, and first couple of playoff games, and I think Bogut will do a great job. He’s been great too, since he’s been back, and this is why we got him — just in case. We were hoping we wouldn’t have any injuries obviously, but that was our most vulnerable position, and we’re lucky to have Andrew.”

Barring an early Cousins return, it’s likely Bogut will remain at the start for the remainder of this playoffs.

In a weekly column with Yahoo! Sport, Bogut talked about the same possibility and his thoughts on the coming games.

“We’re all disappointed and feel for [Cousins] but we now have to go out there and try to win for him. We’ve got a group of guys playing great basketball right now and we have to figure out how to get this series back in our favour,” Bogut wrote. “We’ve got that ‘next man up’ mentality and we just need to make sure that everyone’s engaged and ready. You hear the cliche all the time – stay ready – because you never know, and this is a prime example of that.”

Are we all ready for more nasty screens, dazzling big man passes and more?

It’s time to unleash Bogut.

It's all about Banner 18. And our Aussies in the NBA. And selfless passes. And hard cuts. And defense. Andddd this is where I stop before I get too carried away. Really, it's all about this beautiful sport we know and love as basketball.
