Jonah Antonio and Jay Green both transferring from UNLV
We are growing! Next season, we are aiming to expand our Australian NCAA coverage beyond Division I and we need your help. Let us know of anyone playing NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA or Junior College by clicking here and filling out the form.
Two Australians are leaving UNLV, with Jay Green and Jonah Antonio deciding to transfer.
Antonio, a 6’5 sharpshooting guard will depart the Runnin’ Rebels as a graduate transfer, enabling him to play immediately for his new team in the 2020/21 season. Green is the older brother of Arizona star Josh, a 6’5 point guard who is departing Las Vegas after three years (red-shirted 2018/19).
Antonio started in 13 of 25 games during the 2019/20 season, averaging 6.9 points and 2.4 rebounds for UNLV. He quickly became a fan favourite as a renown sniper, going on to make 53 three-pointers which was the second highest on the team, albeit at a 31.5% clip. Unfortunately for Antonio, he broke his hand during non-conference play which saw him sidelined for a month. With his season disrupted, he was not able to get close to his 40.9% three-point shooting rate he achieved a year earlier at junior college.
There are no shortage of offers on the table for Antonio to consider either. Illinois, Marquette, Xavier, Wichita State, Maryland, Georgia, BYU and Missouri have all expressed interest adding the West Australian to their roster. With his last outing for UNLV seeing him return to the starting lineup, he duly drained 4 of 9 three-pointers for 13 points and 9 rebounds against Boise State to remind everyone what he is capable of when fit and healthy.
Josh Green stepped out in 17 games and averaged 10.1 minutes in his role coming off the bench. He would finish with averages of 0.9 points and 2.3 rebounds in limited opportunities. While his minutes increased as the season progressed, Green will be looking for a new home where he can play a greater role and is not likely to be short of offers.
