With the majority of European leagues tipping off this week, Jock Landale once again shone through with a second straight impressive performance in Lithuania.
In a big 81-47 win against Pieno žvaigždės, Landale came off the bench to be the most efficient player in the game. The former Saint Mary’s standout and 2019 World Cup representative compiled an 11 point and 11 rebound double-double in just 18 minutes. He drew an impressive 8 fouls, and converted 7 of 10 from the free throw line, also dishing out 2 assists as he helped power his team to a second straight win.
Žalgiris Kaunas earned the victory behind dominant second and final quarters where they outscored their opponents 51-16. With a large first half lead, the Žalgiris coaching staff ensures the entire roster saw plenty of on court action. Yet despite the limited minutes, after just two games, Landale is equal fifth in efficiency rating in the league with 19 and impressing everyone in the process.
After a quiet first game with Rytas Vilnius also in Lithuania, Cameron Bairstow showed positive signs in a solid 87-78 win against Prienų. The former Brisbane Bullets big man shot 4 of 7 from the field for 9 points with 6 rebounds in 19 minutes. His team who shot 56% from the field, managed to hold off their opponents and remain unbeaten.
Rytas will take on fellow unbeaten team Neptūnas Klaipėda next up, while Žalgiris will take on the 0-1 Nevėžis on the road as they look to improve to 3-0.
Valencia took to the court for their opening game of the Spanish ACB season, and duly took care of MoraBanc Andorra 89-68. After delivering a strong showing at the Super Cup, Motum came off the bench to log just 16 minutes in which he added just 2 points and 1 rebounds in the 13 point win. With Valencia opening up a 20 point margin at half time, nobody played more than 20 minutes as the court time was spread around.
In Italy, Pistoia dropped their opening game of the Lega A season to Trento 75-88. Former Perth Wildcats centre Angus Brandt continues to await his debut, not called upon from the bench in their 13 point loss.
