Jock Landale shortlisted for the Naismith Trophy

After almost averaging a double-double for Saint Mary's this season, Jock Landale has been shortlisted as one of the Top 30 players shortlisted for the 2017 Naismith Trophy, one of the most prestigious individual accolades in college basketball.

The recognition follows an earlier announcement in the week that Landale had also been shortlisted to just one of 10 players in contention for the 2017 Kareem Abdul-Jabbar award for the best center in the NCAA.

Landale has been enjoying a spectacular season for the Gaels, delivering 16.9 points, 9.5 rebounds, 2 assists and 1.2 blocks per game. He has scored in double figures in all but one game this season, and posted 10 double-doubles. He exploded for a season and career-high of 33 points with 9 rebounds in the Gaels' opening win of the season against Nevada, earning West Coast Conference Player of the Week after that stellar performance.

The 6'11 junior center has been an integral reason for Saint Mary's success this season as they have compiled an impressive 21-2 overall record and a current national ranking of 20. He has been an efficient scorer out of the post, and a model of consistency all season long.

Landale is the only Australian this season to be shortlisted for any of college basketball's major awards.

On March 1, the top 30 players for the Naismith Trophy will be narrowed down to just 10 semifinalists.
