Georgia Amoore commits to Virginia Tech
Victorian guard, Georgia Amoore announced her signing with Virginia Tech on her Instagram account recently.
So excited to announce my commitment to Virginia Tech University, so stoked to be a Hokie and play under Coach Kenny Brooks and all of his great assistants, but also to play alongside the incredible (on court and off) girls. Forever grateful for this opportunity, Blacksburg, my new home away from home, I’ll see y’all soon.Georgia Amoore on Instagram
Amoore represented Australia at the 2019 FIBA 3X3 U18 Asia Cup in Malaysia, along with Casey Valenti-Paea, Shyla Heal and and Ruby Porter, and emerged champions in the tournament.
The guard also played with the NBL1’s Ballarat Rush this year, and averaged 11.2 points, 2.6 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 0.8 steals over 18 games played.
Rush head coach, Eric Hayes showered positive praise on Amoore’s work ethic, as well as trust in her ability to adapt to the NCAA college basketball style of play.
“It’s going to be different for sure but I’m confident she’ll adjust,” Hayes shared with The Courier’s Ben Hopkins. “It’s going to take some time but you’ve got to look at the fact she’s been playing for Australia against very high quality competition.
“She’s pretty smart, she’ll adjust to whatever the situation is and whatever she needs to do.”
Hannah Young and Vanessa Panousis are the most recent notable fellow Aussies to have played with the Virginia Tech Hokies. Panousis has been playing WNBL until this season, and is now playing in the A1 Greek League.
