EuroView: Brock Motum provides an offensive spark for Efes

Brock Motum is well and truly back in form for Anadolu Efes Istanbul in Turkey as they look to climb their way back up the standings, while Ryan Broekhoff was again at his dangerous best for Lokomotiv as they kept the pressure on for first place in the VTB United League.

Queenslander Brock Motum came off the bench to once again provide an offensive spark as Anadolu Efes Istanbul registered a solid 76-68 win against Galatasaray. The 6'10 forward went 5-8 from the field and 4-5 from the charity stripe in compiling a tidy 14 points. He also added 3 rebounds and 2 steals in his 25 minutes, ensuring Efes remained in the top 8 and with a chance of moving up further over coming weeks should they maintain their improved recent form.

In the VTB United League, the red-hot Lokomotiv Kuban made light work of Kalev, cruising to a 95-62 win. Lokomotiv had the luxury to spread the minutes, with Ryan Broekhoff playing just 21 minutes. However in that time, the Australian Boomer still managed to score 11 points including two three-pointers alongside 2 rebounds, 2 assists and 3 steals in another dominant performance. He came up with a big first quarter steal and breakaway dunk, but also missed a bigger and more spectacular dunk opportunity in the second period. His side led by as many as 36 points, and outplayed Kalev in all facets of the game after a relatively close first quarter [video highlights].

Lietuvos Rytas also had the opportunity to share the minutes around in their commanding 65-93 win over Pieno žvaigždės in Lithuania [video highlights]. Rytas were in total control right from the outset and never challenged seventh ranked side. While Ben Madgen started, he only played 15 minutes and provided 2 points, 3 rebounds and and 1 assist. Madgen did all the little things, helping his side force a staggering 28 turnovers, and in doing so Rytas kept their tight grip on third place in the standings.

Dan Trist was in great form for Ourense who belied their last place position in the standings to cause an upset win against ladder-leader Breogan. Trist tallied a game-high 18 points on a sizzling 5-6 shooting and 7-7 from the free throw line in a 79-67 result. The 6'9 forward also pulled down 9 rebounds, just one shy of a double-double. his output was up on his season average of 13.1 points and 5.4 rebounds per game, and was a key catalyst in helping cause the upset of the season in the Spanish second division and their third straight win.

Veteran Rhys Carter went 3-7 from the field for 9 points and 7 assists in 17 minutes off the bench as Uppsala upset third placed Boras 86-71 in Sweden. It was a big win for Uppsala who are now into sixth place and within two games of Boras.

After a brilliant start to his professional career in Norway, Joel Spear was selected to the All-Star Game International team. Spear has been averaging 19 points, 6.8 rebounds, 5.4 assists for Nidaros and is currently one of the most efficient players in the country. Another Australian was front and centre as part of an All-Star game over the weekend, with current head coach of German Budesliga side Wurzburg, Liam Flynn, part of the coaching staff for the Team National squad. It ended with a high-scoring game won by the International side 145-132, with Peyton Siva earning game MVP for his 23 points.

Maccabi Tel Aviv maintained their position on the top of the Winner League standings in Israel courtesy of a narrow 90-86 victory over Herzliya. Trailing by 6 at half time, Tel Aviv unleashed a 26-14 third quarter that enabled them to seize control of the contest. The win was made even more impressive due to the fact Jonah Bolden was rested.
