Australia power forward Duop Reath has signed his first professional contract, inking a 3-year deal with Serbian outfit FMP Belgrade, the same side that Jonah Bolden played for in 2016-17.

With an NBA-type body and athleticism to match, Reath is yet another in growing list of young Aussies set to launch their pro careers in Europe this coming season. He joins Jock Landale (Saint Mary’s/Partizan) and Xavier Cooks (Winthrop/Wurzburg) as three high-profile young Aussie stars from US College signing in Europe since the conclusion of NBA Summer League.

FMP has a transfer policy whereby they reserve a place for extremely talented young players from around the globe, with the planning paying dividends in the past few years, successfully launching the professional careers of Bolden, Michael Ojo, Nemanja Nenadić among others.

A standout at LSU across the past two years, Reath joins FMP after going undrafted in the 2018 NBA Draft before seeing limited action with the Dallas Mavericks in NBA Summer League.

Reath played a leading role with LSU across his final two years of college. He posted 12.5 points on 54% shooting from the field, with 5.3 rebounds and 1 block per game as a senior. As a powerful 6’10 big man, he also displayed an ability to hit from beyond the arc, draining the three-ball at an impressive 42.2% clip last season.

If past history is anything to go by, Reath has landed in an almost ideal situation at FMP.  Past recruits have been given every opportunity to shine at the Serbian club which finished in eight place in the Adriatic League last season.

If Bolden’s meteoric rise is anything to judge by, Reath could be the next Aussie star set to benefit from FMP’s development program.
