Don't miss it: Prahran Summer Jam 2020 tips off this weekend
Prahran Summer Jam, which began as a community initiative back in 2012 by Daniel Ella and Eamon Larmar-Ripon, has since turned into an annual Melbourne staple. It celebrates Australia’s booming basketball scene and stars some big names in the streetball and slam dunk scene, both domestic and international. This year, it’s no different. Held this weekend from 8-9 February 2020, the Summer Jam is also a celebration of summer, and will offer the best elements of a summer street party: open air bars, food trucks, live music and more.
Over the years, this melting pot of sport, music, art and fashion has grown to become a major part of Melbourne basketball and its history. Prahran Summer Jam is now globally recognised and holds influence over all aspects of urban culture.
The two-day festival of basketball and street culture also presents internationally famous dunkers like Canada’s Jordan Kilganon and France’s Guy Dupuy –who both participated in 2019’s PSJ– and Puerto Rican born Isaiah Rivera, who recently won the FIBA 3×3 World Tour dunk competition in 2019.
Other events include the men’s 5×5 tournament, the women’s 3×3, an U18 boys and a U12 girls tournament. There will also be a kids court and a Helping Hoops celebrity game, which will be coached by NBL players and legends.
NBL fans will also be able to catch a live outdoor broadcast of Melbourne United playing against the Illawarra Hawks on the big screens.
