Broekhoff beaten by a buzzer-beater
Both Ryan Broekhoff and Brock Motum found themselves on the wrong end of narrow losses in their respective EuroCup and EuroLeague encounters last week.
Round 12 of the Euroleague came to a tip-off with Zalgiris Kaunas taking on one of the top clubs in Europe in Olympiacos Piraeus. But coming out of the gates, Zalgiris didn’t look to be intimidated as they came out taking a 23-21 early lead. Yet, that didn’t stop Olympiacos from pulling ahead as they battled back into the game going into the final frame up 63-60.
Zalgiris Kaunas did their best from there, but Olympiacos was just too much to handle in the fourth quarter, outscoring Zalgiris 25-15. That allowed the Greek side to get the win 88-75. Brock Motum did his part in trying to get Zalgiris the upper hand, scoring 12 points, grabbing 4 rebounds and getting 2 assists in 26 minutes of playing time.

Ryan Broekhoff continued to be a beast on the glass, hauling in 9 rebounds (3 offensive boards) in just 24 minutes of action in Lokomotiv Kuban's tussle against Valencia Basket. His energy and hustle was almost unmatched as he hounded the opposition all night. Broekhoff finished the game with 2 steals, 8 points and two nice three-pointers. However, his team wasn’t able to come away out on top as they lost a close one, 78-77.
Lokomotiv had their chances to close out the game, but they just weren’t able to as Valencia Basket made a clutch three-pointer with no time left on the clock. Now that defensive meltdown might be what’s most looked at, but the team could have done a better job simply defending the whole quarter. They were outscored 25-19 in the fourth, and that ultimately led to their demise.
