Boomers USA games ticket refunds now possible
News recently broke, on that the ACCC would be involved in the discussion around ticket refunds for the Australian Boomers vs Team USA games. Multiple NBA stars had pulled out for the games, causing disappointment and anger among fans who had paid to see their favourite players up live.
For the fans who are still after a refund, it sounds like TEG Live will be handling ticket refund requests, with multiple fans reporting positive responses.
The email from TEG Live customer service, as shared by a fan is reproduced below in full.
Thank you for your correspondence regarding your tickets to attend the game between USA Basketball and the Australian Boomers at Marvel Stadium, Melbourne.
We acknowledge your disappointment regarding the changes to the USA Basketball squad, although we note that these games will still feature the best available players who will compete for their respective nations at the 2019 FIBA World Cup in China, commencing on 31 August 2019. USA Basketball are shortly to finalise their 12-man squad, full of NBA players, while the Boomers team will feature up to 6 players with NBA experience.
Accordingly, we are very hopeful that you will decide to still attend this historic game to witness the best Australian Boomers team ever assembled taking on the current FIBA World Champion and Olympic Champion, the United States, in front of around 50,000 fans. The players are now all training in Melbourne and we're currently building the massive production and drop in court at Marvel Stadium, which looks incredible.
However, we have considered your particular circumstances and if you no longer wish to attend the game, please confirm by return email and we will arrange for cancellation of your tickets and a refund as soon as practicable.
Again, we are hoping you will still attend to cheer on our mighty Boomers at Marvel Stadium!
Again, it's unclear if the upcoming games represent the best ever Boomers roster, until the World Cup tournament concludes. The email reply above, in no way indicates that TEG will be processing refunds --be it in full or partial-- for every customer, but it's a positive step and a gesture of goodwill towards the wave of negativity that has emerged in the lead up to the Boomers USA games this week, and also opens up the opportunity for other basketball fans to get a good deal on last-minute game tickets.
For everyone else who will be attending the games on Thursday and/or Saturday, Team USA is looking forward to the challenge of playing in enemy territory, against a massive Australian home crowd.
“Obviously, basketball has grown. You’ve got guys like [Ingles], Patty Mills, Bogut, Baynes, all these guys coming over and playing, makes for a lot more fan support," Utah Jazz guard, Donovan Mitchell shared on Monday night.
“And the fact that we’re playing in front of a, 50, 60 thousand? That shows a lot in itself. That’s what I’m really excited about – being able to play against 60,000 fans who are A) cheering against us and B) just enjoying the game of basketball.”
The Boomers, who recently lost big man Jonah Bolden to an abrupt departure, following a 1-1 record against Canada Basketball last week, announced on Tuesday afternoon that forward David Barlow will be stepping up as a replacement.
