Boomers sign crosstown rival Alice Kunek
After a week of disappointment, as superstar Rebecca Allen departed north and headed for new franchise South East Queensland, the Melbourne Boomers have announced the signing of former player Alice Kunek.
With her latest playing days being out at the Dandenong Rangers, Kunek is keen to get back on board and strive for greater success.
"I'm so excited to be joining the Melbourne Boomers for the 2015/16 WNBL season. I've seen how great a coach Guy is and I am looking forward to working with him,
"I previously played with the Boomers so I am looking forward to heading back home, the club is close to my heart and I really want to work hard and help the club win championships."
Kunek, a championship winner with the (Bulleen) Boomers back in 2011, will return to the club with hopes she can excel under coach Guy Molloy.
"Alice is an international-level small forward, an exceptional shooter and a player who leads by example with a rarely-matched work ethic,
"I believe Alice is a perfect fit for the role we have available at the Melbourne Boomers and the quality of her play will be critical to our success next season."
Kunek will fill much of the void left by (Rebecca) Allen as the Boomers look forward to a promising season after building their depth in 2014.
With Kunek attempting to solidify the small forward role, Melbourne are also linked with the other Victorian side in an attempt to further bolster their roster for season 2015/16, as Maddie Garrick is poised to ink a deal with the Boomers according to reports.
Melbourne's off-season spree now stands at four, with captain Tess Madgen, Olivia Thompson and Bec Cole joining Kunek in the purple jerseys.
