The news of some missing big names from this year’s Boomers squad likely triggered a wave of disappointment. Joe Ingles had expressed his desire to rest and recuperate early on. Aron Baynes withdrew from the squad due to surgery. Patty Mills’ unavailability for the Boomers’ Europe training camp resulted in the Spurs guard being excluded from the final team roster.
Regardless, there are still plenty of big names on this year’s squad, especially when it comes to our Australians in the NBA. Andrew Bogut and Matthew Dellavedova, fresh from the excitement of the NBA playoffs, will be present. Dante Exum, who displayed tremendous improvement in his debut Summer League game certainly generated plenty of excitement. Chicago big man Cameron Bairstow showed plenty of defensive grit, and even showed us his three-point range during the NBA Summer League games.
Hype Tours has partnered with Basketball Australia to present an exclusive Boomers & Opals tour (titled the FIBA Oceania Hype Tour), which looks to offer Australian basketball fans behind the scene access, centered around the coming FIBA Oceania Championship games in mid-August next month.
Outside of flying to the States to catch NBA games, this game could very well be the only opportunity for everyone to see some of our biggest stars on the court playing together at home, focused and battling hard for a berth in the Olympics.
The experience begins with attendance to an official Boomers training session, offering fans a rare glimpse behind the scenes into what actually goes on during practice. More importantly, it is an opportunity to catch some of the Australians who have flourished and played in the bright lights of the NBA, with the chance for autograph and photo opportunities with the Boomers post-practice.
Other exclusive experiences include a private breakfast function featuring NBL champion and Olympian CJ Bruton, and also opportunities for meet-and-greet sessions with past and present basketball athletes. There will also be a talk held by Boomers head coach Andrej Lemanis, who can be counted on to share his insights and plans for the Boomers’ journey to Rio 2016.
The FIBA Oceania Hype tour begins on 12th August 2015. Premium category 1 game tickets will be included, but not compulsory if you have already purchased tickets earlier.
- For the Melbourne game on 15th, the Opals will be playing against the Tall Ferns first, followed by the Boomers against the Tall Blacks on the same night.
- The New Zealand games will be split into two days, with the Opals playing on the 17th, and the Boomers on 18th.
Depending on the package, it could include either Melbourne (Rod Laver Arena) or New Zealand (TSB Arena), or even both.
