Aussies in NBA: Bogut back in time for 2017 free agency

It looks like Andrew Bogut's recovery is well on track, and will be ready when free agency strikes.

According to ESPN's Marc Stein, sources indicate Bogut is approximately two weeks from being fully cleared for basketball.

The big man has been undergoing rehab in Australia, and was recently given the green light on running and jumping activities.

Bogut was a defensive key to the Golden State Warriors' first championship run in the 2014/15 NBA season. He was traded to the Dallas Mavericks following the Warriors' loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 2016 NBA Finals, to make room for the acquisition of All-Star forward Kevin Durant.

That move turned Bogut's season into an absolute rollercoaster. Faced with the need to clear up front court issues, the Mavs eventually dealt Bogut to the Philadelphia 76ers, who waived him after. Bogut made the best of the situation, and signed with the Cavaliers, giving himself a chance to face off against his old team.

Bogut sustained an unfortunate injury last season after his signing with the Cleveland Cavaliers, ending his debut game with a leg fracture against the Miami Heat. Prior to the injury, Bogut had averaged 3.0 points, 8.4 rebounds and 1.9 assists with the Mavericks.

There's no doubt the free agency market is open to playmaking big men like Bogut; here's to his eventual return in an NBA jersey next season.
