Aussies in NBA: Bairstow waived by Pistons
Cameron Bairstow was waived by the Detroit Pistons and now finds himself a free agent in the world of basketball.
The move was expected, with the Pistons only really showing interest in his unguaranteed contract which allowed them to remove salary off their books to chase free agents.
After the Pistons committed to Jon Leur and Boban Marjanovic all signs pointed to Bairstows exit from Detroit. He simply had to wait and see if Marjanovic's former team the Spurs would match the Pistons contract, which they declined.
Bairstow appeared resigned to the situation when he talked to Fairfax Media recently:
"They have made some moves already, the option has to be declined or picked up by the 25th so we'll find out for the next couple of weeks.
"It will be while I'm hopefully preparing for the Olympics but that's just part of the uncertainty of being a professional athlete."

The good news for Bairstow is he made the Olympic team, and now has the big stage of the Rio campaign to impress and either land another NBA contract or head to Europe.
He did his chances no harm last night when the Boomers played the PAC-12 All Stars, scoring 9 points and pulling down a game-high 11 rebounds.
