The Playoffs were undoubtedly the goal for the Milwaukee Bucks as they headed into the 2016/17 NBA season.
And whilst it hasn’t all been smooth sailing – major injuries to Khris Middleton and Jabari Parker have been body blows – the Bucks now find themselves well within the Playoff hunt.
Currently the sixth seed in the East, the Bucks are finding consistency at the right time of the season.
This is great for Aussie basketball fans as it could result in both Matthew Dellavedova and rookie Thon Maker getting some Playoff minutes!
Although Dellavedova has lost his starting spot to rookie Malcolm Brogdon, he has been a key factor in the Bucks record of 8-2 over the last 10 games.
Over that stretch, Dellavedova is averaging 8.8 points, 3 assists and 1.7 rebounds in just over 25 minutes of game time. Brogdon has played 28 minutes per game over that time, and it is clear that both can co-exist successfully in Jason Kidd’s system.
Delly’s shooting is a head-scratcher. He is struggling from the field; connecting on just 37% of total shots in the last 10 games, but his three-point shooting has been fire; connecting on 51.5% of shots from behind the arc.
In a three game stretch in mid-March, Delly connected on 10/14 triples (71%).
In more recent games, he has cooled off from downtown, but there’s no doubt that he is a legitimate threat from deep.
Delly and his Bucks teammates still have plenty of work to do in order to solidify their spot in the crowded, bottom half of the Eastern Conference Playoffs.
As the standings suggest, the Bucks can’t afford to take their foot off the gas as teams are right there with them, hoping they falter late.
With 11 games remaining in the regular season, the Bucks have some absolutely huge games coming up. Those games include taking on the Hawks, Bulls, Pistons, Pacers and two massive games against the Hornets.
It’s pretty simple from here on out; keep winning and the rest will take care of itself.
Dellavedova is one of only two players, Jason Terry being the other, on the Bucks roster that has won an NBA Championship. He knows what NBA Playoffs basketball is all about and in this final stretch of the season, we all know Delly won’t back down from the fight.
