Andrew Bogut halts NBA return this season, puts focus on family

Andrew Bogut will not be returning to the NBA this 2017/18 season, and will remain in Australia for now.

He broke the news on his own Twitter account, citing family reasons, but will be ready for free agency when it starts, according to Shams Charania.

In case you’re not able to view the tweet:

I have decided not to return to the NBA for the remainder of the 2017/18 for a number of reasons.

I had returned to Australia In February for the death of my Grandfather, Mile Bogut, may he R.I.P.

On top of that my wife’s pregnancy with our second child was diagnosed as a very high-risk pregnancy. She will not be able to travel to the USA, so I decided to stay in Australia through the pregnancy, rather than signing a 10-day contract/contract to finish the season/playoffs.

I thank those teams that reached out and inquired

This was a decision which has been up in the air for the past few months, but ultimately, I decided being home and around as much as possible during this period was the best thing for my Family. I am still working out and staying in shape, and will be ready for training camp for the 2018/19 Season.

Thanks to all the fans out there for the continued support!

Bogut last played for the Los Angeles Lakers this season, before being waived. He played 24 games, and averaged 1.5 points and 3.3 rebounds, while shooting 68% from the field.

We may not see Bogut make a late playoffs entry this season, but family comes first, as always. Best wishes from us to Andrew Bogut and his family as they work through the pregnancy.

It's all about Banner 18. And our Aussies in the NBA. And selfless passes. And hard cuts. And defense. Andddd this is where I stop before I get too carried away. Really, it's all about this beautiful sport we know and love as basketball.
