It looks like Alanna Smith might not be playing in the WNBL this season.
Sammy Wloszczowski of SIG, who represents Smith, tweeted congratulations on her selection in the Women’s Korean Basketball League (WKBL) 2019-2020 draft, and mentioned her commitment to the Incheon Shinhan Bank S-Birds this season.
The draft was streamed live over Facebook on the official WKBL Facebook page, with 96 applicants in wait for six spots. The S-Birds, who have had eight championships to their resume, experienced a 6-29 performance last season, took Smith with the second pick.
The WKBL regular season begins in early November, and runs up till early March. This conflicts with the 15-round WNBL, where Round 1 typically begins in October, with the last round ending in January, and Grand Finals held in February.
Earlier this year, Alanna Smith was selected with the 8th pick in the 2019 WNBA draft by the Phoenix Mercury, which is headed by Opals head coach Sandy Brondello.
