Injury derails AJ Ogilvy's season in Spain, returns to Australia
Former Sydney Kings star center AJ Ogilvy has cut short his European adventure with La Bruixa d'Or Manresa in the Spanish ACB, returning to Australia after injury ruined his season.
Ogilvy's experience with Manresa was severely restricted due to injury, with the 2.11cm big man battling to remain fit. Playing just 6 matches so far during the 2014/15 season, he was averaging 7 points and 3 rebounds in 14 minutes per game. After recovering from plantar fasciitis, he showed signs of his potential with a season-high 16 points with 7 rebounds in just 15 minutes on court in a 78-59 victory over Rio Natura Monbus Obradoiro. However 4-games later he again succumbed to injury, this time tendonitis in his foot.
Prior to his departure for Europe, Ogilvy averaged averaged 13.1 points and 8.7 rebounds per game for the Sydney Kings in the Australian NBL in the 2013/14 season. Before that, Ogilvy had previously played in Europe, utilizing his dual Australian-Irish passport to play as a 'local' with Besiktas Integral Forex Istanbul in Turkey, Valencia Basket in Spain and Brose Baskets Bamburg in Germany.
Ogilvy has yet to sign any new deal with a team, rather focusing on regaining full fitness ahead of assessing his next career move.
"I'm coming back to Sydney and to get my ankle right then see what's available," stated Ogilvy exclusively to The Pick and Roll.
There is no doubting the talent and abilities of Ogilvy to add value to most teams in Europe and back home in Australia. However given his extended run of injuries, ensuring he is fully fit to place his best foot forward (excuse the pun) is his priority right now.
