2016 Basketball Without Borders All-Star Camp: Day one recap
The four Australians at the 2016 Basketball Without Borders Camp in Toronto at NBA All-Star Weekend impressed at the first day of the camp.
Thon Maker, Matur Maker, William McDowell-White and Harry Froling are the foursome representing Australia at the event, as we documented a couple of weeks ago. According to many at the camp, the Aussies had a strong showing on day one of the camp.
Here is a recap of the performance of the four Australians on day one of the BWB camp in Toronto.
Thon Maker
The headline act, not only of the Australians but also of the entire camp, Maker was matched up with DeAndre Ayton, a number one prospect for the Class of 2017, out of the Bahamas, as Bleacher Report’s Jonathon Wasserman and Fox Sports Olgun Uluc reported.

An extremely athletic and bouncy 7-footer, Maker was arguably the top performer on day one of the camp. He impressed with his “super high motor” and a combination of “energy, rim running & shot blocking” via Uluc and Evan Daniels from Scout.
Maker is being heavily recruited by a number of major collegiate programs, including UNLV, St John’s, Indiana, Notre Dame, Kansas and Arizona State.
Matur Maker
Thon’s younger brother, Matur Maker didn’t make as many headlines as his brother but still raised some eyebrows on day one.
Jeremy Loeliger, the General Manager of the NBL, was able to get a picture with the Maker brothers at the event.

On the court, Matur was training with the wings, instead of the bigs despite his 6’10 frame, per Uluc. He reportedly didn’t look “out of place” but still needs a lot of work to fine-tune his game.
Maker is apart of the Class of 2017 but that hasn’t stopped colleges from fielding interest from the big man. Arizona State, Kansas, Indiana and Missouri are the first colleges to being their recruiting on Matur and expect more colleges to join the race to secure his commitment.
Harry Froling
Having already committing at SMU, Froling heads to the BWB camp to measure up his game with the best and ensure NBA scouts are aware of his immensely impressive skill-set.
Froling was clearly excited about the opportunity to showcase his talent at the BWB camp.

Keep an eye out for Froling to continue his solid play as the camp continues in Toronto.
William McDowell-White
Hawaii, Louisville, Michigan State, Fresno State, New Mexico, USC and Portland are all recruiting McDowell-White and he showed his defensive talents on day one of the camp.

Regarded as one of the hottest prospects internationally, keep an eye on McDowell-White to impress even more on the second day of the camp.
