After three seasons with Gran Canaria, Newley has become a fan favourite, leaving little doubt that he would sign a contract extension. 2014/15 was a big year, with Newley helping guide his team to a record-breaking Eurocup season that went agonizingly close to winning the title. He was simply outstanding, and was named The Pick and Roll's best performed Australian male in Europe this past season.
The 30-year-old Newley has racked up 109 games as a member of Herbalife Gran Canaria, playing an average of 26.6 minutes and contributing 11.1 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game across that span. Instrumental in Gran Canaria run to the 2015 Eurocup finals, Newley started in 18 of 21 games and shot an impressive 542% from the field and 42.3% from beyond the arc on his way to averaging 12 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game. In the Spanish ACB he was good for 10 points and 3.5 rebounds per game in what was one of his best seasons in Europe.
Before he returns to Spain for the 2015/16 season, Newley is expected to make himself available for national team duty as part of the Boomers campaign to qualify for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.
