Kings add Whittington to ever improving roster

The Sydney Kings will this weekend announce their second import signing of the season, 6' 8 forward Greg Whittington.

Whittington's addition bolsters the already impressive roster Kings coach Andrew Gaze has at his arsenal, which includes the likes of league MVP and current Boomer Kevin Lisch, Julian Khazzouh, Brad Newley, Aleks Maric and recently signed American Michael Bryson.

A Georgetown Hoya product who finished his collegiate career in 2013 after being derailed by a pair of knee injuries, Whittington's has been more recently seen hitting up the NBA D-League for the Sioux Falls Skyforce in his rookie season.

The 23-year old from Maryland burst onto the scene before a broken wrist mid-season once again put a spanner in the works, just as he was building quite an impressive resume.

After battling back from injury, Whittington averaged 13.8ppg, 8rpg and 2.7apg as the Skyforce went on to win the D-League Championship as the new King was named in the D-League's All-Rookie Team.

In the current off-season, Whittington decided against participating in Summer League activities and instead went home to Maryland to work out with his local counterparts. Such players included NBA stars Victor Oladipo and Jerami Grant.

Whittington has his sights set on playing in the NBA, but for now he and his agent were set on looking towards international deals before heading back to the D-League for a chance to go back-to-back.

The now ever-resourceful Sydney Kings look to have picked up a high calibre player who is used to playing in a star studded team (Sioux Falls).

Described as more of a 'Swiss Army Knife' type player, Whittington has publicly stated that he had been working on his handles over this past off-season.

My ball handling. Definitely being able to handle the ball more fluently will make things easier and allow me to do more things on the court. Since most teams have me playing the 3/4, that can make a huge difference. My versatility is probably my biggest strength, so the more things I can do well — dribbling, shooting, rebounding, defense — the better.

Despite Kings management travelling to Las Vegas to find their next batch of stud imports, Whittington has most recently been in Sydney, working out in front of the team, as per Olgun Uluc of Fox Sports.
