“It’s just a very prestigious program,” White said, via an interview with Daniels of Scout.
“A lot of great players have gone there. I think it’ll be great challenge for myself. I enjoyed the visit and it seemed like the right place for me.”
White was tossing up between Duke and Boise State, where he would have joined fellow Aussie Nick Duncan. Anthony Drmic, another Australian, is currently in his senior season with the Broncos.
One of the deciding factors in White’s decision was the prestigious coaching at Duke, as he explained to Daniels.
“I think I have a really good relationship with all the coaches,” White said about the Duke staff, via Daniels. “They are all great, especially Jon [Scheyer]. I’ve talked to him the most. He’s a great guy and coach. He’s been honest with me and it’s been good to communicate with him and Coach K.”
White is coming off a dominant performance at the U20 Australian Junior Championships, where he led his Victoria Navy team to gold with 19 points and 11 rebounds in the title game.
An extremely strong-bodied wing, White said he prides his game on “versatility”, via Daniels. “I shoot the ball pretty well. I can defend multiple positions, rebound and push the ball in transition. I can contribute in a lot of different ways.”
