EuroView: Motum Stars in Zalgiris Win
In Lithuania, Brock Motum dominated in guiding Zalgiris Kaunas to their fifth win in a row over Panevezys Lietkabelis, while Brad Newley caught fire for Gran Canaria in an important victory over Bilbao Basket as the Australian men enjoyed a big week in Europe.
Brock Motum was the star of the night, leading Zalgiris Kaunas to a lop-sided victory over Panevezys Lietkabelis 92-59. Motum had the hot hand, scoring a team-high 19 points on 9-15 field goal attempts and grabbing 7 rebounds in only 19 minutes of playing time. Zalgiris Kaunas were too much to handle for their opponents, as they dominated from start to finish thanks to their stifling defense, holding the opposition to 37% shooting from the field.

In the Spanish ACB, Herbalife Gran Canaria came away as victors in a close game over Dominion Bilbao Basket. CAI Zaragoza faced UCAM Murcia CB in what was a competitive game from start to finish. Both teams would go back and forth trading leads through much of the game, however the assist differential would start to show who was ready to come out with the win. UCAM Murcia would finish the game with 23 assists compared to Zaragoza’s 9 dimes on the night. Zaragoza was forced to play too much hero ball and that would come back to hurt them as UCAM Murcia came away with the win 110-102. Daniel Dillon had a strong showing as did his best in trying to drag PGE Turow to a win over KS Rosasport Radom, scoring 15 points on the night to go with 4 assists and 4 rebounds. A strong showing in the first half would allow PGE to go up, as they outscored their opponents 42-34. But from there on KS Rosasport Radom looked to gain some momentum as they started creating turnovers and capitalizing on them, outscoring their opponents the final two-quarters which allowed them to go on to win the game 81-71.

Ater Majok helped Trefl Sopot come away as victors thanks to his stout performance on the less glamorous end of the floor, preventing Polpharma from getting easy looks inside and instead forcing them to make tough jump shots. His defense would help hold Polpharma to 39% shooting on the night, allowing Trefl Sopot to come out with the win 66-60. Majok would finish the game with a double-double, scoring 12 points (3/6 FG) dishing out 3 assists and hauling in 11 rebounds in 29 minutes of action.

In the VTB United League, Lokomotiv Kuban came away as winners in a blowout victory over Loimaa Bisons 95-55. Lokomotiv’s defense was on display all game in holding their opponents to 33% shooting from the field. They dominated in all facets of the game and that allowed them to come out with the win. Ryan Broekhoff had a hot shooting night, connecting on 4/5 three-point attempts and finishing the game with 14 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists in 19 minutes of action.

David Andersen was in fine form, doing his best in leading ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne to the win over CSP Limoges, scoring 14 points, getting one block, one steal and hauling in 5 rebounds in 24 minutes of action. ASVEL would fall behind early 23-14 before coming back into the game with a strong third quarter, outscoring their opponents 25-13. However Limoges would come back with a strong showing in the fourth period, allowing them to go on to win it 78-73.

In Belgium, Verviers-Pepinster took on Belfius Mons-Hainaut, both teams would look to implement different strategies, with Pepinster looking to play more one-on-one basketball compared to their opponents who chose to keep the ball moving and play team oriented basketball. Mons-Hainaut would finish the game with 17 assists compared to Pepinster's 10, and in the end that would allow Mons-Hainaut to come out with the win 83-75. Ben Madgen was on fire, scoring 17 points on an efficient 7-12 shooting from the field and hauling in 5 rebounds in 32 minutes of action. However that wouldn't be enough, as Verviers-Pepinster came out as losers.

The rebounding differential was the difference as Oviedo dominated the glass, outrebounding Barcelona 41-26, and in the end that came back to hurt Barcelona, allowing Oviedo to come out with the win 80-68.

Palencia lost a one-sided affair to Penas Huesca 89-63 also in the LEB Oro. Mitch McCarron had a quiet showing, playing 19 minutes and scoring 2 points with 2 rebounds and getting his hands on one steal on the night. Penas Huesca was on fire from behind the arc, making 16-38 (42%) attempts on the night. That would come back to hurt Palencia as they came away with the loss.
