EuroView: Allen, Madgen and George the stand out

It’s been another big week for our females in Europe who are producing standout performances across the continent, we take a look at the past week’s highlights.

Tess Madgen’s move to Europe has been another stepping stone for her international career, as she continues to instill herself as the stalwart of her Lublin side. Their brilliant win over CCC Polkowice was a result of Madgen and her teammates impeccable defense, forcing the opposition into 23 turnovers. This brings Lublin to 3 wins in a row as they continue to build momentum, now sitting 2nd in the TLBK. Madgen was again phenomenal with 20 points and 5 assists, and managed to keep New York Liberty star guard Brittany Boyd to just 9 points.

UNIQA Sopron lost their Euroleague match to MKB Euroleasing 82-61. However Australia’s Cayla George was the standout, top scoring with 18 points and being assigned the tough defensive task of American import Brittney Griner. Her side also competed in the Hungarian league where they had a big win over Vasas Akademia.

Good Angels Košice continue to dominate the EGBL by incredibly wide margins, and most recently overcame SBK Samoan by a massive 54 points. Allen top scored with 20 points for the day in just 15 minutes of game time as she continues to lead this team to victories and bring positive results.

Allen’s side however suffered a heavy loss in the EEWBL to Yakin Dogu University by 24 points where she contributed 9 points.

11th ranked Tarbes had a tough task in coming up against #2 in France, Bourges, and the result was predictable for the underdogs. Bishop however continued her solid form, banking 12 points, 11 rebounds and 3 steals. Her side will come up against fellow Australian Rachel Jarry’s Lattes Montpellier in another difficult task.

Natalie Hurst was kept busy, playing the full 40 minutes in Hatay’s 1-point loss to Istanbul Uni in Turkey. Hurst made 12 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists in a gallant effort, but wasn’t able to total enough to steal the win. Hatay also lost their Euroleague match against Spanish side Perfumerias Avenida, where Hurst made 2 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists.

Rachel Jarry’s Lattes Montpellier had a crucial loss in Istanbul against Fenerbahce, where they went down by 3 points. Jarry had 11 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists but her side wasn’t able to take back control of the game after it fell Fenerbahce’s way and that’s where it was lost.

Lattes Montpellier get to play their first Euroleague game at home against the powerful Dynamo Kursk, facing some big names like Angel McCoughtry, Nneka Ogwumike and Anna Cruz.

Nicole Romeo manages to keep producing solid games for Campus Promete, and did exactly that in their recent 61-79 loss to Perfumeries Avenida, where she top scored for her team with 15 points alongside 4 rebounds. No doubt her Spanish side will be relishing in her performances, and would be impressed with the talent they were able to pick up.

ASZ Gorzow of Poland were not able to get over the line against JAS FBG, and were beaten by just 4 points. Nicole Seekamp produced 11 points and Steph Talbot had 7 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists in a positive result for a disappointing game.

Dynamo Moscow are yet to break their unfortunate run, after losing to Nadezhda Orenburg by 5 points after committing a frightful 23 turnovers. Katie-Rae Ebzery tried her best with 9 points, 2 rebound and 3 assists but was out of luck when it came to turnovers with 7, as her entire team was plagued by the opposition’s pressure. Button continues to provide solid performances for Moscow with 8 points, 14 rebounds and 2 assists.
