Motum, Madgen and Broekhoff doing it tough
Round 5 of EuroLeague saw Zalgiris Kaunas coming away on the losing end of a close game with Turkish club Darussafaka Dogus Istanbul, while in the EuroCup, Ben Madgen and Ryan Broekhoff continued playing well, despite the fact that their teams came up short.
Brock Motum had himself another impressive showing, scoring 10 points on an efficient 4/7 shooting from the field in Zalgiris' 3-point loss to Darussafaka. He was also all over the glass, hauling in 5 rebounds and getting his hands on one steal in 26 minutes of play. Zalgiris weren’t able to pull out the win, but they did show some fight for much of that game.
In a stellar third quarter of play from Darussafaka, they outscored Zalgiris 35-21 in the period which put the Lithuanian side behind. Zalgiris did outscore the opposition in the final quarter (24-22), but in the end it just wasn’t enough as Darussafaka earned the win 83-80.

Round 4 of the Eurocup came to tip-off with Lokomotiv Kuban Krasnodar taking on Hapoel Jerusalem. The Russian side looked to be one step ahead of their adversary, taking a 31-25 lead by the end of the first quarter of play. However, in the second quarter, Hapoel Jerusalem stepped it up a notch defensively, holding Lokomotiv to only 15 points in the quarter while going into halftime up 52-46.
In the second half, the Israeli side continued piling on the points as they went on to win the game with the final score 90-79. Ryan Broekhoff didn’t get much of a run, seeing only 12 minutes of action on the night. But he played with his usual hounding defensive efforts while also playing with the high energy were accustomed to seeing from him as he finished with 2 points and 2 rebounds.

Ben Madgen and his Lithuanian club Lietkabelis Panevezys came away on the losing end of a lop-sided loss to Herbalife Gran Canaria. Madgen was one of the lone bright spots for Lietkabelis, as he played with a nice defensive effort getting his hands on tip passes and a couple of steals (2). Offensively he also got it going from behind the arc, hitting 2 triples on his way to scoring 10 points in 28 minutes of action.
Lietkabelis just didn’t look to be on par with the Spaniards right from the start, giving up 35 points in the first quarter alone. From there, they were forced to play catch-up for most of the game and weren’t able to get back into the contest. Lietkabelis continued fighting for much of the night, but to no avail, as Herbalife Gran Canaria came away with the win 86-67.
