Mading attended The Rock School in Gainsville, Florida for his sophomore year, whilst playing for Team Belief on the AAU circuit. Mading cited the coaching staff as one of the factors in his decision to transfer to St Anthony.
I chose St Anthony's because I have a good relationship with the coach, that's where me and my family felt comfortable, and because the people there will push me both on and off the court to be at my best.
Mading holds offers from the likes of Arizona St, LSU, Florida and Connecticut. He sees this transfer as an opportunity to take his game to the next level, as well as experiencing championship success in another state.
What I hope to achieve at St Anthony is to be the best player I can be when I'm done there, and also win a state championship.
As one of Australia's best prospects for the Class of 2017, Mading will have the chance to play under veteran coach Bob Hurley - a 27-time state champion and 3-time USA Today National Coach of the year.
St Anthony will definitely prepare me for the next level because I'm being coached under a hall of fame coach, and just the people, and players, will push me every single day to get better and play my best. I also feel like I'll learn a lot more about basketball which will have my basketball IQ ready for the next level.
We had the privilege of interviewing Mading last year, where he told us about his desire to represent Australia. Word is that Australian coaches have been in touch with the Aussie big-man, so it's only a matter of time before we see him in the green and gold.
