Mading who transferred to St Anthony High School in New Jersey after attending The Rock School in Gainsville, Florida for his sophomore year, has also previously played with Team Belief on the AAU circuit. Scout.com rates Mading as a Top 100 prospect at 67, while he is also ranked as the 11th best forward of his class.
As one of Australia’s best prospects for the Class of 2017, Mading has thrived in playing under veteran coach Bob Hurley Senior – a 27-time state champion and 3-time USA Today National Coach of the year. At the Sun Devils, he will link up with Hurley's son Bob Hurley Junior, who is also heavily recruiting fellow Australian-Sudanese brothers Thon and Matur Maker.
After being heavily recruited, Mading chose the Sun Devils over a host of very good programs including St John's, Kansas State, Connecticut, Florida, LSU, Boise State and South Carolina to name just a few. Mading has been in very good from for St John's, most recently compiling 14 points and 4 rebounds in a 71-44 win over Pope John. He is sure to be a valued asset for the Sun Devils and may well yet be joined by one or two of the Makers to potentially form an imposing front line.
