Central ABL Round 2: South women score thrilling OT win
North Adelaide Rockets vs West Adelaide Bearcats
Women: North Adelaide Rockets 72-67 West Adelaide Bearcats
In what was a close fought match for its entirety, the Rockets were able to push through despite a late scare for a five point win.
Jo Hill (18 points) and Jamie-Lee Peris (18 points, 12 rebounds) were dominant forces on the offensive end for the Rockets in what was helped by Shannon McKay’s 8 assists. For the visitors, Alana Nairn had 16 points and 7 rebounds.
North seemed to lead for the entire match until late in the fourth quarter when the game was tied up at 63. The Bearcats then led for the smallest of times before Peris took it into her own hands to win the game for her team.
Men: North Adelaide Rockets 58-78 West Adelaide Bearcats
The Bearcats were able to secure their second win of the season which includes them as one of only three teams to remain undefeated as they easily dispose of North.
West were able to pull away in the second quarter, when Blake Truslove (14 points, 13 rebounds) and Tristan Braithwaite (17 points) were able to find their rhythm.
Fellow teammate Jason Dawson (13 points) joined in on the scoring festivities during the second half on their way to the easy victory.
South Adelaide Panthers vs Woodville Warriors
Women: South Adelaide Panthers 91-90 Woodville Warriors
In what was game of the round, the Panthers stole the show with an emphatic overtime win thanks to a Janae Howard three point buzzer beater in which saw the home crowd tear the roof off!
Howard finished with 38 points, 14 rebounds and four steals, while Jess Mahoney had 20 points and 15 assists. For Woodville, Katherine Perkas had 22 points and 9 rebounds in the losing effort.
Men: South Adelaide Panthers 74-96 Woodville Warriors
The class of Woodville prevailed in what was an exciting contest for about two and a half quarters, with the Panthers providing a great insight to what they can bring for the rest of the season.

Despite the score line which probably doesn’t speak wonders for South Adelaide, they should have their heads held high and take many positives away from the contest. Shane Boel was outstanding with 25 points even if none of his teammates could provide any help.
For the visitors, Alex Starling led all scorers with 29 to go along with his 13 rebounds, doing a lot of his damage at the free throw line. Daniel Sims had 25 points and 8 rebounds while Darren Ng finished with 18 points and 4 steals.
Norwood Flames vs Southern Tigers
Women: Norwood Flames 91-52 Southern Tigers
The Flames continue to start the season on the right foot and look for this trend to follow on in the coming weeks, as they dispatched the Southern Tigers.
Norwood was able to lift their defensive intensity to another level, forcing 35 Southern turnovers which turned into easy transition points.
Amy Lewis led all scorers with 24 points for the Flames, while Jess Good had 21 points and 5 steals. For the visitors Lauren Fisher was the only highlight with 23 points, despite 10 turnovers.
Men: Norwood Flames 80-82 Southern Tigers
The Tigers have held on to secure a victory against the Norwood Flames despite leading by as much as 17 points midway through the third quarter.
Big fourth quarters from both Ian O’Boyle (15 points) and Andrew Webber (14 points) had the home crowd on their feet as the Flames stole the lead and had all momentum heading into the final minutes.
However the cool headed Tigers found a way to regroup mostly thanks to Codey Ellison (16 points, 12 rebounds, 6 assists) who stole back the lead and managed to just pip the Flames at the post.
Central Districts Lions vs Forestville Eagles
Women: Central Districts Lions 45-92 Forestville Eagles
Central Districts once again had a disappointing loss, this time to the much stronger Forestville Eagles. Once dropping their round one clash to the Southern Tigers, it was known that this one could be ugly and that it was.
Sarah Petrie secured a double double with 21 points and 10 rebounds for the Eagles, while Jess Fergus completed an all round game with 19 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals.
With the Lions shooting just 28% from the field, it was no surprise the Eagles were able to pile up 50 rebounds, which tells the whole story of the game.
Men: Central Districts Lions 95-75 Forestville Eagles
Central Districts secured a comfortable win against a lacklustre Eagles outfit. As the Lions built on their lead each quarter, it turned out to be a very respectable display by the home side in which Kyle Miller scored 32 points and dished out 9 assists.
Chris Clausen was Miller’s back-up scoring 18 points of his own to go with 7 rebounds. For the visitors Neil Mottram had 18 points and 9 rebounds, while Trent Fildes had 11 points and 9 rebounds.
Eastern Mavericks vs Sturt Sabres
Women: Eastern Mavericks 56-99 Sturt Sabres
Sturt’s inside game prevailed in the way they were able to execute 62 points in the paint, in which that figure alone was enough to beat the Mavericks in the win.
The Sabres did the damage is the opening half as they piled on the points while their shut down defence was too good for the Mavs who struggled to find the hoop in the first twenty minutes. At 49-24, the third term was even more horrific, with Sturt scoring 32 points to 14 to well and truly kill the game off.
Hannah Richards had 24 points and four blocks on 11-13FG shooting, while Lucy Spalding scored 19 points to go along with 9 rebounds
Men: Eastern Mavericks 74-89 Sturt Sabres
The final game of the round saw the Sturt men ease past Eastern Mavericks by 15 points. Despite losing head coach Brett Maher to television commitments, the Sabres had no worries in breezing past their opponents.
Sturt’s first half sealed the game for the away side with a dominant first term, with an even better second. The Sabres put on 26 points to just 8 in the second stanza.
As Tim Klaosen returned from his duties with the Adelaide Crows, he led the team to a convincing win with 17 points and 8 rebounds. For the home side, Curtis Scipio had 18 points while Dylan Shorne had 10 points and 10 rebounds.
