Broekhoff impresses with his play in the Euroleague
Round 10 of the Euroleague top 16 saw Ryan Broekhoff light it up from behind the arc in Lokomotiv Kuban's loss to Fenerbahce Ulker Istanbul, while Brock Motum didn't get much of a run in Zalgiris Kaunas loss to Euroleague powerhouse Real Madrid.
Lokomotiv Kuban took on Fenerbahce Ulker Istanbul in a battle to take first place in the Group E standings. From tip-off the Turkish opposition looked to make a statement, taking an early 17-13 lead. They continued piling on the points with their play through the first half allowing them to go into the main break up 30-25.
In the second half Lokomotiv looked to find an edge outscoring their opponents 19-13 in the third quarter, but Fenerbahce would continue to fight back. As the game came down to the final minute of action Lokomotiv trailed 54-52. Malcolm Delaney had a chance to win it for Lokomotiv but unfortunately he would come up short, allowing Fenerbahce to come out with the win 55-52.
Ryan Broekhoff finished the game with 8 points, 5 rebounds and 1 steal. He also made a pair of three-pointers on the night to go with his excellent showing on the defensive end. Lokomotiv outscored Fenerbahce by 3 points in his 30 minutes of action, but in the end it wasn’t enough as the Russian side came away as losers.

Zalgiris Kaunas faced one of the top teams in the competition in Real Madrid, and coming out of the gates they looked to make it an upset victory. They took an early 17-13 lead with a strong showing in the first quarter. However Real Madrid looked to gain some momentum as they showed off their high-power offense; scoring 49 points through the next two-quarters, allowing them to go into the final period up 62-53. Zalgiris would fight back as they went on a run of their own, cutting the lead to 5 points (67-62.) But their awful perimeter defense would come back to hurt them as they let Real Madrid shoot 43% from behind the arc, which in turn let them come out with the win 90-75.
Brock Motum had a quiet game, going scoreless in his limited playing time (8 minutes). Yet he found other ways to help the team; by keeping the ball moving and also getting his hands in the passing lanes. Zalgiris fall to 2-8 after the loss as they continue to dig themselves into a hole with their inconsistent play.
